Pirastro Chorda Viola strings are authentic strings for Baroque instruments. The A and D strings are plain gut while the C and G strings are silver wound on a gut core. The silver winding is copper wire that is silver plated.
Because of their gut construction giving a lower tension, they are very comfortable for the left hand.
The medium set and single strings are designed to be tuned for 440 Hz tuning. The Higher tension/largest gauge strings are suitable for 415 Hz tuning. The gauge difference between different tension strings of 0.25 (1/4) PM will alter the tension by 3%
The string ends are as follows:
- A strings – without a knot
- D strings – without a knot
- G strings – with a knot
- C strings – with a knot
For best results, Pirastro recommends using Eudoxa rosin with Chorda Viola strings
