Unlike general music retailers, we regularly transport double basses ourselves when delivering instruments across the UK. That practical experience means we only recommend products we trust with our own instruments.
There are two main ways to make transporting a double bass easier, each with its own advantages.
Traditional endpin wheels replace your bass’s endpin while travelling. They are lightweight, compact and quick to fit, making them an excellent choice for rehearsals, short journeys and everyday use.
When choosing an endpin wheel, it is important to select the correct shaft diameter to match your instrument’s endpin. Many basses use a 10mm endpin, while others require 8mm or 12mm versions.
The RC Williams Bass Buggie® takes a completely different approach. Rather than supporting the instrument through the endpin, it supports the bass from underneath the lower bout using a padded cradle. This provides exceptional stability while reducing stress on the lower block and endpin assembly.
The Bass Buggie is ideal for professional musicians, orchestral players, music students and anyone regularly transporting a valuable instrument. It works with or without most gig bags and fits double basses from 1/10 size through to full-size 4/4 instruments.

If you’re unsure whether to choose a pneumatic or solid wheel, think about where you’ll be using your bass most often.
Pneumatic wheels use an inflatable tyre which absorbs bumps and vibrations, making them ideal for rough pavements, outdoor paths and longer journeys.
Solid wheels require no maintenance, cannot puncture and perform extremely well on smooth surfaces such as schools, concert halls and rehearsal venues.
We don’t simply sell double bass accessories—we use them ourselves. Our workshop regularly prepares, sets up and delivers double basses throughout the UK, giving us practical experience of the products we recommend.
The RC Williams Bass Buggie fits most double basses from 1/10 size through to 4/4 and can usually be used with or without a gig bag.
Your bass wheel must match your endpin diameter. Common sizes are 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to help you identify the correct size before ordering.
If you regularly travel over uneven pavements or rough surfaces, pneumatic wheels provide noticeably better shock absorption and a smoother ride for your instrument.
Most players remove an endpin wheel after transport and refit the standard endpin before playing. The Bass Buggie is designed to be fitted and removed quickly whenever required.
