The Xeros bass wheel is designed to fit double basses with an 8mm, 10mm or 12mm endpin diameter, out of these the 10mm is the most common. The wheel is pneumatic meaning that you can inflate/deflate the wheel to your required pressure using the Schrader valve, as you would a bicycle tyre. The wheel itself is 6 inches in diameter and is mounted on the spindle using ball bearings for smoothness and less friction. The Xeros wheel has two bicycle like forks which attach to the spindle at each side making the Xeros wheel very strong. The wheel fits into your bass’ endpin socket replacing the endpin when wheeling the bass. The rod that fits into the endpin socket is flatted on one side so that when you turn the endpin tightening screw it presses on the flat side of the rod to prevent the wheel spinning.
There are three variations of the Xeros bass wheel which only differ by the diameter of the rod that fits into your bass’ endpin socket. The three sizes are listed below in both metric and imperial measurements:
- 8mm (5 /16 inch)
- 10mm (3/8 inch)
- 12mm (1/2 inch)
When you have the wheel fitted you will need somewhere to stow your endpin. Some bass cases like the Westbury 22mm Double Bass Case or the 12mm version have a dedicated pocket on the front for endpin storage. Xeros also make the Xeros Endpin Anchor for when you’re playing to stop the endpin sliding away from you.
