String Sizes and Scale Lengths
Dominant Viola strings are available in six different sizes dependant on the scale length of your Viola which is the length of vibrating string between the top nut and the bridge.
- 1/2 size is ideal for 32.5 cm vibrating length (scale length).
- 3/4 size is ideal for 34.5 cm vibrating length (scale length).
- 4/4 size is ideal for 37 cm vibrating length (scale length). However, they are usable from 36.5 cm up to 37.5 cm
- 38 cm size is ideal for 38 cm vibrating length (scale length). However, they are usable from 37.5 cm up to 39.5 cm
- 39.5 cm size is ideal for 39.5 cm vibrating length (scale length). However, they are usable from 39.5 cm up to 41 cm
- 42 cm size is ideal for 42 cm vibrating length (scale length). However, they are usable from 41 cm up to 43.5 cm
Individual Dominant Viola String Options
Within the Dominant range of Viola strings, there are some strings that are available in different tensions, although medium tension is the most popular and all of the sets contain medium tension strings. There is also the option of a silver wound D string in 4/4 size. All strings are ball end and have a synthetic core.
